About CapLink

CapLink is the Journalism School's state capital news service for smaller dailies and the 400-plus weeklies in Texas. It provides hands-on reporting experience for graduate students and also serves to provide news about state government and politics to small newspapers that can't afford to maintain a bureau in the state capital. The project is a collaboration between the School and the Texas Press Association.

CapLink has been taking story requests from editors around the state for more than a decade, but in spring 2006 it became a full wire service staffed by Prof. Rusty Todd's graduate students, who generated more than 250 stories during the semester. Reviews from the Texas Press Association were very positive and the project returned this year to provide legislative news. Graduate students in the public affairs reporting classes taught by Professors Gene Burd and George Sylvie are responsible for coverage and Todd's copy editing class will edit copy. Future plans include expanding news offerings to include UT sports, entertainment and culture and business and technology news.
